The are a lot of mythical ideas about pool chlorine being responsible for certain things such as turning women’s died blonde hair green and getting sore eyes. The smell from a chlorinated pool is also off putting for some when levels are too high but let us debunk these myths and set the record straight!

WHY DOES BLONDE HAIR TURN GREEN IN A POOL?

ANSWER: Copper !

Yes! not chlorine but copper in your water. Copper can get into your pool or spa water from a few different ways

Water Source

Certain areas local water supply has been found to have high copper and mineral content within it. High mineral content is also found in bore water.

Algaecide 

The treatment of algae in a pool is usually done with algaecide which contains copper, however there are some copper free alternatives now days.

Mineral Sanitisers

There are other types of pool mineral sanitisers on the market that use copper or silver as a chlorine alternative for the algaecide properties and work great at keeping the clarity of the water clean but the metal content must be constantly monitored and removed accordingly.
